Day 3: Today I went to a 2 hour class at Circus Warehouse called Extreme Stretch. I also did some dynamic stretching in ballet and then some static stretching while in gymnastics class later on.
In terms of the stretch class, Pprt of me felt like I could have done more alone without explanations and everything BUT the invaluable part of the class was teacher corrections and partner stretching. I would like to go back 1X per week to stay motivated, be around others with flexibility goals, and get teacher corrections. I also did my first drills for a chest stand 🙂 and my first handstanding scorpion so that was cool. I learned that the reason why I can’t lift my back leg up and have difficulty getting my head to touch is due to my extremely tight hip flexors so I have to do that front split stretch with the back leg bent up against the wall parallel alot. I was also able to work in my conditioning right before I took ballet. Yay!
Day 4: Didn’t do any conditioning. Was too exhausted by a 2 hour rehearsal, 1.5 hour class, teaching & company class. Stretched for 2.25 hours after class, 3/4 hour before another class, and 30min after my last class. Got through everything except shoulders.
Realized:
- My flexibility when cold and when just in class is extremely different than when i’m warm and do a deep stretch.
- My cambre back on the right is restricted probably because my lack of hip flexor flexibility.
- I can indeed go down to my elbows in a bridge 🙂
- Need to look up whether its better to do my left split all the way down with the back leg not parallel at all or just keep it parallel and not go down.

I absolutely love your dedication, you’re going to go so far! That circus warehouse class sounds like a place I want to be!! 🙂 In regards to your last note, I too have very tight hip flexors and have found it useful to keep my back leg straight or parallel as you put it, and then I try to engage and disengage my hip flexor muscles with breath. Strengthening my hip flexors has helped me tremendously. I normally lift up on my back toes, even in a full split I still go up on my toes and straighten my back… Read more »
